Intelligent Vehicle Technology Transfer (IVTT) Program

We originated the concept for the Intelligent Vehicle Technology Transfer (IVTT) Program in 2003. It was sponsored 2003 – 2006 by the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), 2007 – 2008 by the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR), and 2008 – 2009 (and beyond) by DARPA. The IVTT program has been supported by the Department of Transportation (DOT) Intelligent Transportation System Joint Program Office (ITS JPO); Army Tank Automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center (TARDEC); Association for Unmanned Vehicles International (AUVSI); Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America); and the Department of Commerce (DOC) National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Intelligent Systems Division (ISD), which has also provided funding and facilities.

The purpose of the IVTT Program is to facilitate intelligent vehicle technology transfer between the Department of Defense (and its stakeholders) and the Department of Transportation (and its stakeholders) in order to: save lives on the battlefield and on the roads and highways; to save money on systems and infrastructure; and to ease the emergence of a transformational (disruptive) technology which will impact military tactics, strategy, and doctrine, as well as boost the automotive industry and society in general, leading to new systems, emergent enterprises, and national wealth.
